For any of you who are looking for a way to help the people of Haiti, I'd like to recomend the United Methodist Committee on Relief. 100% of money donated through UMCOR goes directly for the mission. All costs associated with running the organization are provided through other channels. It is a great way to get the ...most "bang" for your buck. Check them out at www.umc.org. You will also find articles there on how else you can help, such as providing health kits (directions are given). You can also find them on FB.

And please don't listen to Pat Robertson or Rush Limbaugh. Both of them seem to have forgotten all about the compassion of the God they claim to worship.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving again this year, with the Ogden relatives at our house---10 of us all together. Steven's company, Poly-Clip, provided their employees with a turkey, so we had a fresh turkey this year. I do love Thanksgiving food!

This is a cute little advent countdown to Christmas thing I made for Steven. He seemed surprised and impressed when I gave it to him. Each drawer has something in it, mostly candy, but a money surprise in at least one drawer.

New Scrapbook Room!

I have been making Steven's bedroom into a scrapbook room for me. It is painted green, with white woodwork. I also got new window treatments. While I have just started moving in, I thought I would post some initial pics. The first one is the closet: I took off the doors and it will just be left open. The island in the center is a kitchen island that I initially bought for my mother and brought home with me after she died. I had a top made and attached to it, so I have a lot of working room on the top.

Pepper is a flat coat retriever, 3 months old. She is also known sometimes as "Pepper Princess" since Princess is what the breeders had taken to calling her.

Burn Notice

I love Burn Notice! The new season begins tonight, June 4 at 8:00 PM on USA. This show has 2 mini seasons a year, one summer and one winter. It is a smart, witty spy drama, unlike any other genre out there.

It's about former government spy Michael Weston who is burned from the agency. He has spent his time trying to find out who burned him and why, when he is not helping out someone else as a sort of private investigator.

We dog-sat for some friends for a couple of weeks. They were both older dogs and were really sweet. The black one is Velvet and the other is Sam. They really liked Steven!

Our church had a mission auction and I contributed a chipboard scrapbook album, which I did in a Christmas theme. I really liked how it turned out.

We Have A Sonic!

OK, how sick is this? I totally love Sonic drive-ins, but we have never had any in Wisconsin. When I go to Oklahoma, the first thing I do after getting my rental car, is drive to a Sonic for their Strawberry Limeaide. So you can imagine how excited I got when Milwaukee recently got their first Sonic. The traffic around there is crazy, so I waited a few weeks, but finally went a day ago. They still had parking attendants all over the place, but I was able to pull in fairly quickly and ordered a Jr. Burger and a Rt. 44 Strawberry Limeaide (that's their biggest size). It was "happy hour" which means half-price drinks, so I figured I could get the largest size.

We went to eat at McCormick and Schmick, a seafood restaurant near Mayfair Mall. I had made the reservations online and mentioned that it was his birthday. When we got there we saw they had customized our menus! That was great.

I made a pecan pie for Thanksgiving, with a gluten-free crust (thanks Mom!). It looked prettier than any pecan pie I have ever made. So I took a picture!

We watched Comedy Central's hour long, live coverage of the elections last night. They went a little longer than an hour, giving Jon Stewart the chance to call the election. He became the first comedian to announce the winner of a presidential campaign, a Walter Cronkite moment as someone referred to it.

The Presidential Election

I just finished watching the last presidential debate and I am afraid for our country. John McCain trots out all his tired cliches and the same old attacks on Obama's character.

I truly am afraid for our country if McCain gets elected. He refuses to answer specific questions, just like in the debate tonight. All he was interested in was attacking Obama, even if it meant he had to out and out lie. Negative attacks and campaigns must work,otherwise why would people use them? But if this man and his uninformed, unprincipaled running mate are elected, I am afraid our country will be in deep trouble.

Obama was not my first choice in the democratic nomination. I truly believe Senator Clinton would have made a better president. However, I am totally impressed with how he handles himself and his campaign's determination to refute false and misleading accusations as they happen. Our best hope is for someone to come in with new ideas and say we are not going to do things the way they've always been done. Can Obama stick to his promises and push across his reforms? Probably not. Neither can McCain. But at least we know what Obama stands for and that he has a plan.

When I go to the polls on November 4 my vote will be for Barrack Obama. I urge people to go to www.factcheck.org. It is an independent group that publishes what the facts are. Obama also has a web site called www.stopthesmears.com. Read them both and then make your decision

James Dobson Doesn't Speak For Me

I know this blog is mostly to show my scrapbook pages, but I feel quite strongly that we need to work to prevent this coming election from being high jacked by these far right, evangelical conservatives. This is one web site you can go to sign that Dobson doesn't speak for you. Rev. Caldwell is a religious conservative, yet even he was appalled by Dobson's attack on Obama.

"The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, a Methodist pastor from Texas and longtime supporter of President Bush who has endorsed Obama, said Tuesday he belongs to a group of religious leaders who, working independently of Obama's campaign, launched a Web site to counter Dobson at http://www.jamesdobsondoesntspeakforme.com." Here's more from the AP story:
The site highlights statements from Obama and Dobson and asks visitors to compare them.

Caldwell said he has great respect for Dobson's advocacy for families, but said the criticism of Obama was "a bit over the top" and "crossed the line."

"There has been a call for a higher level of politics and politicking," Caldwell said. "So to attack at this level is inappropriate and I think unacceptable and we at least want to hold everybody accountable."

Also there are a ton of "smear" emails being sent around with lies about Obama and his family. You can go to http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome/
to find out what is being said and what the truth is. You can also report smear emails you get.

Scanning lay outs

I usually take pictures of my 12x12 layouts for my blog, but I am usually not happy with how the pictures turn out. I found this neat software that lets me scan my layouts in 4 steps and then it "stitches" them together for me. That's what these layouts are.

I am so excited. I am finally caught up on all my football pages. I will take some pictures of the more interesting pages and post them later.

Dave and I went and tried out his new toy he got for his birthday...a GPS. We found our way to Lake Geneva intending to go and see the snow sculptures from the ice festival this weekend. Well everyone else in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois were also there. We couldn't even find a place to park and traffic was just bumper to bumper. We saw a few from the car, then headed home.
